Gargrave FC Reserves 2 – 2 Settle Utd
September 11, 2008
Gargrave Reserves took Settle by surprise in their return game on Wednesday 10th September. The first encounter a few weeks ago was a harsh lesson for Gargrave who had just begun to form their squad and Settle celebrated with an 11-0 win.
The early pressure came from the hosts and United soon realised this was no easy ride. However the latter scored the first goal of the game through a close range header. Tom Varey came close just before half time skilfully trapping the ball, but his shot went just wide. Young Mattie Simpson, maturing by the game and playing some great football was rewarded with his first goal of the season to level. Richard Scott denied Settle the lead when he headed off the line. Good passing moves allowed debutant Jamie Cartman to notch up his first of the season. There was end to end action as both teams battled hard in the rapidly fading light. Richad Scott shot just wide of goal while at the other end keeper Adam Hudson made an excellent save at feet. Settle did level through a penalty but were given a big surprise from a more resolute and settled side than they encountered in their first match.
