Oakworth FC 0 – 4 Gargrave FC Reserves

October 25, 2008

Eleven men were raised at the eleventh hour so the game against Oakworth could go ahead. Full credit to assistant manager Sam Ashby who had the difficult task of forming a squad besieged with injury, unavailability and frustrating last minute repeals.

It was debut day for both Martin Eyles and Stuart Dolan who performed way and beyond the call of duty. Stepping into the un-enviable job of keeper was Christian Hodgson who was quite simply the business – a clean sheet with a quaility performance.

The playing conditions were difficult with soft ground underfoot and strong winds. The latter element aided a curling corner from Simon Boatwright which opened the scoring. Matthew Simpson`s solo effort as he ran from the half way line, slipping the ball past the keeper was the goal of the game. Richard Scott`s tap in from Sam Ashbys volley notched up the third. The fourth and final goal was an Ashby/Scott reversal with Sam tapping in the ball from a Richard Scott volley.

A fine victory with an excellent performance from all eleven players. A solid display from the rock in defence, man of the match, Aidie Eyles.
