Rolls Royce 2 – 1 Gargrave AFC Reserves
November 10, 2008
Gargrave Reserves knew they had a tough challenge ahead of them when they faced the League leaders, Rolls Royce on Saturday.
Player un-availability and injury forced manager, Jimmy McLachlan out of retirement and into defence. He was well supported by Geoff Rotherham and Kristian Hodgson who were outstanding. The versatile Hodgson was awarded the man of the match award for his endeavours.
The non arrival of the official referee saw Rolls Royce provide a stand in through Robin Chapman. Gargrave worked hard throughout the game with the fitness and commitment of Richard Scott, Jonathan Chapman and Matthew Simpson paying a premium as always. Rolls took a 2-0 lead but Gargrave pulled one back minutes from time after some good passing play found former Gargrave junior player Neil Banks un-marked and ready to notch up his first of the season.
Gargrave were unlucky not to come away with a share of the points but on the day it was a creditable result against some top class opponents. Manager McLachlan was upbeat and pleased with his teams performance and looks forward to the return game when hopefully a full strength squad will be available.
