Saturday 13th Dec- Premiership Cup Game Off & Division One

December 12, 2008

The Premiership cup tie between WFC Clitheroe and Gargrave AFC due to be played on Saturday 13th December has been called off.

The council pitches at Clitheroe were deemed unfit on Thursday lunchtime due to the heavy frosts. Mick Holgate, the Clitheroe secretary and first team manager kindly offered to switch the venue if the Gargrave pitch was playable. However despite a slight thaw, the Skipton road pitch remained covered in snow and a pitch inspection on Friday lunchtime confirmed there was no chance of the game going ahead as the attached pictures show. The playing surface was covered with both ice and snow with frost underneath.

The Division One cup tie at Embsay was called off on Saturday morning due to the pitch being under water after a thaw and heavy overnight rain.  Embsay tried to relocate the game to the all weather pitch at Sandylands but to no avail as the pitch was fully booked. Sam Ashby,  Gargrave Reserves assistant manager checked the condition of the Gargrave pitch but that too was under water. So game off.
