AFC Padiham 1 – 2 Gargrave Reserves

October 5, 2009

Gargrave Reserves were delighted to take the full three points at their game vs AFC Padiham on Saturday.

The Lancashire hosts were the first to score but Gargrave levelled through a superb strike from Mark Webb on his first outing of the season. The wind was making play difficult for both sides but the Gargrave defence held well, marshalled by the experienced Adrian Eyles and Nick Kendall and aided admirably by young Luke Chapman and ex Rugby player Michael McLachlan. Gargraves winner came after man of the match Harry Thompson weaved his way from midfield into the box, cutting back to Jonathan Chapman who scored from close range.  A welcome three points.

Gargrave AFC 1 – 1 Rolls Royce FC

October 5, 2009

The wind was the dominant factor in the game between Gargrave and the Premier Division leaders Rolls Royce FC. Gargrave scored straight from the whistle after Joel Timmins had gained possession allowing Ben Brown to neatly place the ball into the corner of the net. An overhead kick on the turn from Timmins went just wide whilst Rolls over ran the ball causing just too an acute angle for a precise shot. Keeper Stuart Wilson produced a couple of excellent saves to prevent Rolls levelling but a curling corner aided by the strong wind was just nudged over the line for the visitors to equalise.

The wind continued to gust but it was Gargrave who overcame the conditions, having the best of play, keeping the ball on the ground and passing well but that winning goal would just not come.

Al Tudhope was the man of the match for Gargrave with his tireless running which caused problems for the opposition both in defence and attack.
