Gargrave Reserves 0 – 5 Silsden Whitestar

November 30, 2009

Gargrave had the better of the play in the first half. A couple of early headers were just off target and Jonathan Chapman and Oliver Hurst both had chances. Whitestar`s only real threat was headed off the line by defender  Ben Ashby.  Man of the match Oliver Hurst made a welcome return in his first league game of the season  after a lengthy suspension and he controlled the game in midfield despite the poor conditions underfoot. Silsden pushed forwards hitting the bar with a shot, a melee in the area saw Gargrave give away a penalty which was well converted by the visitors.

Silsden increased their lead just into the second half of play with an easy tap in, Hurst almost levelled. A further three goals were added to the visitors tally, two were lobs over the stranded keeper. Gargrave continued to work hard though they knew the game was now beyond their reach on the heavy pitch. Al Tudhopes strike for a consolation goal went just wide. Despite receiving some physical knocks another great performance from young Luke Chapman in defence.

Gargrave Reserves 0 – 2 AFC Padiham

November 21, 2009

This was a brave performance by Gargrave particularly from those who were carrying injuries. Both Jodie Lonsdale and Jonathan Chapman had attempts on goal whilst keeper Adam Hudson kept the visitors at bay. Ben Ashby played well in the centre of defence and debutant Chris Cox was a good support. Left winger Ed Stanley rolled back the years with a fine performance.Despite both teams efforts on the heavy pitch the score remained goal-less at half time.

Padiham looked likely to score just into the second half but the shot was well blocked by keeper and man of the match Adam Hudson. A fine controlled  and thunderous strike from Jonathan Chapman was so close for Gargrave but it bounced off the underside of the bar and then out. Hudson saved well again. A goal mouth scramble saw the ball cleared but Padiham took advantage by scoring from the clearence. Minutes from time the visitors increased their lead to 2-0.

A sterling performance from Gargrave who could not be faulted for their committment. The squad look forward to reversing the result when Padiham visit them again on the 5th December in the league cup. The next league game is on Saturday at home vs Silsden Whitestar.

Craven FA Morrison Cup: Pendle Athletic 1 – 2 Gargrave AFC

November 21, 2009

Both sides were struggling with numbers as the game started with only nineteen players on the pitch; ten for Gargrave and nine for Pendle. Gargrave took advantage of their extra man, testing the oppositions  keeper on a number of occasions. Pendle bravely held out for the first twenty minutes but their defence was finally breached when Paul Wilkin fired a low shot into the back of the net. Gargrave continued to push forward but were unable to make their man advantage count further as the half time whistle blew.

Further reinforcements arrived to slightly bolster both of the squads for the second half of play. Pendle were able to play with ten men whilst Gargrave now had the full contingent. Surprisingly it was Pendle who levelled with a shot from the edge of the area. Gargrave continued to push forward and it was one of their late arrivals, Alex Dawson , who scored with a well directed free kick. The game came to a close with Gargrave the victors by a narrow one goal advantage but both teams would come away from the game disappointed that they had not a full squad of injury free and available players to choose from.

Trawden Celtic FC 6 – 1 Gargrave Reserves

November 16, 2009

The heavy ground took its toll on Gargrave and though their were chances on goal the visitors were unable to convert them. Trawden notched up half a dozen goals whilst Gargrave were able to claim a consolation one through the hard working Jonathan Chapman. Man of the match for Gargrave was mid fielder Harry Thompson.

Gargrave AFC 6 – 3 Grindleton FC

November 16, 2009

Defenders turned strikers when Gargrave played Grindleton on Saturday. Left back James Wilkin opened the scoring with a long low shot from a free kick. Whilst centre back Matthew Brennand gave the keeper no chance with a low shot from the edge of the area.

In the second half of play Richard Orme`s free kick was headed in by Brennand and a shot from player/manager, man of the match Matt Brown increased the hosts lead to 4-0. Grindleton pulled one back with a goal from close range. Substitute Ben Brown took Gargraves tally to five with a tap in. Grindleton replied with an unstoppable strike. Joel Timmins scored Gargrave`s sixth and final goal with an overhead kick. Grindleton scored their third minutes from time. An excellent all round team performance from Gargrave.

Gargrave Reserves 0 – 5 Embsay FC…..

November 7, 2009

Gargrave Reserves  0  -  5  Embsay FC

Despite the weeks wet weather the game at Gargrave was able to go ahead due to the efforts of the team manager Jimmy McLachlan. His hard work in making the pitch playable on Saturday morning ensured the game could take place.

. High flying Embsay had all the attacking play in the first forty five minutes. Stephen Speak scored the first of their goals with Adam Longden lobbing the ball over the keeper for the second. Longdens close range shot and Speaks header completed the four goal rout. Gargraves lone attempt courtesy of Mark Webb was nudged over by the Embsay keeper.

Gargrave gave a better performance in the second half but luck was against them when they conceded a deflected own goal. The energetic hard working Matthew Hurst earned the man of the match award though Jonathan Chapman matched his endeavours. Substitute Stuart Dollan continues to improve contributing some skilfull  play to the game.
