Gargrave AFC Reserves 0 – 2 AFC Padiham

February 16, 2009

Gargrave were slow to settle on the heavy pitch and were punished when Padiham scored just minutes into the game. The visitors had the advantage of a run of corner balls but could not convert further. Jonathan Chapman went close at the other end of play when his shot hit the bar. Padiham missed a golden opportunity to score followed by a shot which went just wide and then they were denied by a fine block from man of the match defender Aidie Eyles. Gargrave began to settle though were still guilty of playing balls in haste, more composed moves did create some chances and Tom Varey came close but his shot went over the bar as half time loomed.

Padiham went close early in the second half of play when their shot hit the bar. Gargrave rallied and pushed for goal but again it was a case of more haste less speed. Keeper Adam Hudson made a great save at feet, the return shot hit the bar and a follow up was well saved again. Padiham scored their second goal minutes from the full time whistle taking the result beyond Gargraves reach.

Defender Geoff Rotherham had a solid composed game at the back playing some of the best football on the pitch.
