Gargrave AFC Reserves 1 – 2 Oakworth FC

January 18, 2009

Despite working hard and running their legs off on the heavy ground the hosts just could not convert their chances. Tom Varey was the first to come close with a speculative ( he may say spectacular ) overhead kick which went wide of the target.

An unlucky bounce went under the keepers diving arm to give Oakworth their first goal on the half hour mark. Two excellent saves from the visiting keeper denied striker Mattie Simpson a  brace of goals just before the half time whistle.

A soft goal from close range gave Oakworth a 2-0 cushion and there was almost a third when they hit the bar and then a penalty was shot well over target. Gargrave continued to battle though Oakworth were playing the better football. Sam Ashby scored a consolation goal for Gargrave through a neat header whilst at the other end of play, Adam Hudson saved well to deny Oakworth.

Defender Aidie Eyles had a solid game to claim the man of the match award with Kristian Hodgson also acting as a lynch pin at the back with a tireless and committed performance.

The Reserves travel to AFC Padiham next week and then they can look forward to a long run of home games.
