Gargrave AFC Reserves 3 – 1 Embsay FC

March 16, 2009

Gargrave AFC Reserves  3  -  1  Embsay FC

A much improved performance gave Gargrave Reserves a good win on Saturday against Embsay.

The strong winds initially were the dominant factor but Gargrave enjoyed much of the early play though Embsay did begin to settle as the half progressed. The hosts played well as a unit stringing together some better passes than of late despite the conditions.

Mark ( goal a game ) Webb had his eye firmly on goal and took the direct route when he neatly nutmegged the keeper to notch up the first for Gargrave. Embsays danger man, Dave Greenwood, hit the post with a fine strike and promptly hit it again moments later. He made no mistake on his third attempt with a wind assisted ball from close range. A fine run by Neil Banks created the opening for Mattie Simpson to take a 2-1 lead as the half drew to a close.

Good passing moves from Tom Varey to the hard working Geoff Rotherham saw a precise cross to the feet of the well  positioned Richard Scott who  tapped in from close range.Scott went wide just minutes later whilst a brave save from keeper Adam Hudson thwarted Embsays attempts to get back into the game as Gargrave continued to dominate.

A good performance from the hosts in which every man played their part. Mattie Simpson took the eye of the oposition when they named him as man of the match.
