October 30, 2010

Rolls took the lead in the first half of play but Gargrave were giving a spirited performance despite their side suffering from injuries and unavailability.

Crosshills FC 8 – 0 Gargrave Reserves

October 30, 2010

Gargrave Reserves knew this would be their toughest game of the season when they visited the league leaders Crosshills. Their task was not helped when the squad was hit by injury and unavailability. However the young side and Chappie ( ! ) enjoyed a good half hour at the start of the first half when they held their own and kept the score at 0-0. Crosshills then began to take control and scored three goals.

Crosshills came out in the second half and dominated play claiming a further five goals. The home side played well and deserved the points but to Gargrave`s credit they worked hard right until the final blow of the whistle. Man of the match for Gargrave was Jonathan Chapman and for Crosshills Eddie Jenkins.

Gargrave Reserves 1 – 1 Skipton Town

October 23, 2010

Both teams started the game well but it was Gargrave who took the lead on twenty minutes when Robert Barker ran half the length of the pitch weaving amongst the opposition to place the ball in the bottom corner of the net. Skipton Town replied with a cross for a header at the back post to equalise.

It was a pretty equal affair in the second half with both teams striving for the winner but the Gargrave defence held firm with man of the match Luke Maude making some fantastic saves in goal to keep the score at 1-1 as the final whistle blew .

A good game for Gargrave who will have to pull out all the stops next week when they visit  high flying Cross  Hills.

Embsay Reserves 4 – 1 Gargrave Reserves

October 17, 2010

A difficult day for the young squad with their experienced captain Adrian Eyles forced to leave the field of play early on in the game through injury and Jonathan Chapman and defender Michael McLachlan unavailable. Things did not improve as the game went on with player manager Matthew Simpson aggrevating an ankle injury.  Embsay took the lead early on in the game and scored a second fifteen minutes later.

Gargrave gained a bit more confidence in the second half and their play improved though Embsay pushed forwards and scored a further two goals. Lee Dent gave the visitors some hope when he picked up a loose ball on the penalty spot and slotted the ball into the bottom corner. Robert Barker was man of the match for Gargrave and Oliver Hunter earned the praise for Embsay.

The Reserves next game is at home on Saturday against Skipton Town.

Craven FA – Craven Cup – Gargrave AFC 7 – 1 Horton FC

October 17, 2010

Gargrave  needed a win in this Craven Cup encounter to boost their confidence after a dismal start to their League campaign. Horton`s League record in comparision was commendable . The home club were delighted to welcome back Geoff Rotherham after his seven month stint in Afghanistan and his return added strength to the midfield. Gargrave took control from the start and captain Richard Orme was the first to score with a bullet shot from a free kick. Ben Brown followed up with an unstoppable shot. Simon Boatwright`s shot across goal went in on the twenty minute mark. A long range goal kick from Adam Hudson was misread by the Horton keeper who came off his line to gather but the shot went over for Ben Brown to tap in. Al Tudhope`s thunderous long range strike took the score to 5-0 at half time.

A tap in from defender Matthew Brennand increased the hosts tally whilst a lob from Horton gave them a consolation goal. Christian Moon added Gargraves seventh in the latter stages.

Good attacking play from Gargrave with some great finishing which they now need to apply to their league games. They have a free day next weekend but return to the league action on the 30th October with an away game at Rolls Royce.

Gargrave AFC 4 – 5 Ighton Leigh

October 9, 2010

Gargrave must have thought it was going to be another one of those days when a misunderstanding in defence gifted the first goal to Ighton Leigh. However the visitors only minutes later duplicated the mistake and Ben Brown tapped in a goal to level the scores. Gargrave almost took the lead with shots from both Christian Moon and Matthew Hurst. Ighton Leigh lost a player through dissent and scored against the run of play. Gargrave pushed forwards and again came close through both Moon and then Brown with a one on one with the keeper. Ighton Leigh went 3-1 ahead with a long low shot but could not convert a penalty which went wide.

Gargrave scored their second with a penalty just into the second half of play which was converted  by Ben Brown . Ighton Leigh replied with a one on one with the keeper to give them a 4-2 lead. Ben Brown took on the Lancashire keeper and pulled the score back to 4-3. Shots went just wide of the mark for Matthew Hurst &  Ben Brown. Defender and man of the match Matthew Brennand headed just over the bar and Christian Moon had a chance after a one on one with the keeper. However Ben Brown made no mistake with a lob taking his goal tally to 4 and levelling the scores. Ighton Leigh produced another long low shot towards the end of play which gave them a one goal advantage and the full three points.

AFC Padiham 3 – 1 Gargrave Reserves

October 9, 2010

Gargrave started the game well taking the lead through player manager, Matthew Simpson,  who won a free kick from thirty yards out curling the shot into the top corner. Padiham equalised with a wind assisted cross which drifted into the bottom corner. Gargrave were disappointed when a goal was dis-allowed for offside and then Padiham took a 2-1 lead just before half time.

Gargrave battled well in the second half of play but Padiham gained a further goal in injury time despite the best efforts of the visitors stand in keeper, Martyn Jubb. Despite the scoreline this was another decent performance by the Gargrave team. Man of the match was Matthew Simpson and for the hosts, Gregg Kozminski.

Pendle Athletic 2 – 0 Gargrave AFC

October 3, 2010

Pendle started the game well but Gargrave soon began to match them. There was little to choose between the sides during the first half of play as the 0-0 scoreline at the break indicated.

Pendle took the lead in the second half, scoring from a corner after some slack defending by Gargrave. The visitors continued to push forwards and man of the match Al Tudhope was unlucky  not to equalise when his shot clipped the post. Pendle added their second on the break five minutes from time. Gargrave`s  Centre back Matthew Brennand had a good game.
