Gargrave Reserves 1 – 8 Skipton LMS Reserves

February 15, 2010

Gargrave started brightly with the first chance of the game going to Jonathan Chapman after some good interplay between Nick Kendall and Stuart Dollan. LMS went just wide and then a free kick was sent over the bar. The visitors best chance was thwarted by some excellent defending by Aidie Eyles. A goal mouth scramble created the first goal for LMS  when the ball just trickled over the line inches away from a defenders extended leg. Gargrave continued to attack with a lob from Jodie Lonsdale saved and a shot from Lonsdale just wide. Stuart Dollan was on target but again the shot was saved. Michael McLoughlan tried a shot but again the Gargrave luck or seasons lack of it was against them. likewise a long range effort from Lonsdale. An easy shot from LMS gave them a 2-0 lead and a defensive error gifted them a third. Gargrave cricket legend Ed Stanley weaved his way into the box and scored a well taken goal to lift the hosts spirits and keep them in with a chance. 3-1 at half time.

Gargrave came out in the second half the stronger of the two squads but their chances just lacked the finishing composure. Any attacks from LMS seemed to result in a goal and the visitors were soon 6-1 to the good. To Gargraves credit they never relented in their play and continued to pressurize LMS throughout the half. A long range shot from defender Ben Ashby went over the bar but LMS came back scoring a further two against the run of play. Ben Ashbys free kick was on target but was headed out by an LMS defender. A game where LMS deserved the points but perhaps not by the margin. Nick Kendall made a welcome return to the squad after injury and was awarded the man of the match award.

The Reserves are away at Oakworth next Saturday.
