Pendle Renegades 5 – 0 Gargrave Reserves

September 1, 2010

This was the first game of the new season for Reserve team Manager/Player Matty Simpson. Unfortunately it was one for him to watch from the sidelines after receiving some ligament damage to his ankle in a pre season friendly which has also put paid to him finishing a very successful cricket season with Bradley. It was also a debut game for five of Gargraves players with three of them just reaching the minimum age requirement. Pendle were always going to be tough opposition, a good team, well marshalled with some strong players . Gargrave`s first team had played them a couple of weeks previously in a pre season friendly when they had drawn 3-3.

Pendle started strongly and the Gargrave defence did well to hold them for much of the first half, the hosts first goal came from a cross into the box, 1-0 at half time. Pendle scored a second and Gargraves best chance of the game came after substitute Stuart Dollan played a through lob to Andrew Smithson who blasted the ball straight at the keeper. Pendle managed to break a further three times to claim a five goal win. The game was played in good sporting spirit with the better side earning the full three points. Harry Thompson in central defence earned the man of the match award for Gargrave and Matthew Nutter earned the plaudits for Pendle.
