Gargrave Reserves 1 – 4 Hellifield Sports

March 14, 2011

It was local derby day on Saturday when Gargrave Reserves were hosts to Hellifield Sports. The visitors were taken by surprise when Gargrave were more than a match for them despite their lowly position in the league. Gargrave maintained much of the possession and played a decent passing game well marshalled by their player managers Jonathon Chapman and Adrian Eyles. Hellifield claimed the first goal of the game on the twenty minute mark but Robert Barker was quick to equalise. The young Gargrave side continued to play some good football but were unable to convert their chances.

The visitors pulled a goal ahead in the second half when the ball went through the defence, an equaliser almost came but the chance was headed off the line by a Hellifield defender. Gargrave continued to push forwards with the pace of Craven Minor Oliver Wild always a threat to the Hellifield defence but like the first half the hosts were unable to convert their chances into goals. Hellifield took advantage of their opportunities and scored a further two goals to take the score to 4-1. They were awarded a penalty but this was saved by keeper Luke Maude. A  share of the points would have been a fairer result  after a sterling performance from Gargrave.
