Gargrave Reserves 2 – 5 Embsay Reserves

February 28, 2011

Gargrave knew this would be a tough game after meeting the same opponents last week in the Craven FA  Norman Pratt Cup quarter final where they were on the wrong end of a 4-1 scoreline.

The first ten minutes of the game saw a fair distribution of the action but it was Embsay who scored with a long low shot against the run of play. The visitors were then awarded a penalty which was easily converted. Gargrave in turn were awarded a penalty on the half hour mark but this was saved by the keeper. The hosts continued to play with great spirit and a free kick from William Beckwith went  just wide but a goal mouth scramble gave Gargrave some hope as Lee Dent just got the final touch to bring his team back into the game.

Embsay extended their lead in the second half after a one on one with the keeper and a fourth goal was scored from a glancing shot. Luke Maude made a great save to stop Embsay from extending their 4-1 lead. Gargrave continued to push forwards and worked hard in the now heavy ground conditions. Gargrave were rewarded for their lively all round team performance when Robert Barker scored their second goal with a superb shot .Unfortunately it was Embsay who had the last word when they scored a late goal to bring the final score to 5-2.
