Gargrave Reserves 2 – 5 Ingrow and Worth Valley FC

January 7, 2012

Despite the torrential rain in the days leading up to the game the pitch was in a reasonable condition though it did become increasingly heavy as the game progressed. The wind had a strong influence on much of the game . Ingrow were playing with the wind in their favour in the first half and a diving header from a cross created the first goal for them. A second almost came from a goalmouth scramble. Tom Varey had the first chance for the hosts but after some good passing play it was Matthew Simpson who levelled the score with a well placed header. Some good through balls from man of the match Harry Thompson gave Gargrave the opportunity to increase their lead, Matthew Simpson latched onto one, passed to John Beckwith who scored to take a 2-1 lead from close range. Simpson via the same delivery then had a chance with a one on one with the agile Ingrow keeper but luck was against him.

Gargrave went out in the second half expecting a wind assisted win but an excellent strike from Ingrow saw them level the score. A good shot from Beckwith was saved by the impressive Ingrow keeper who was awarded the man of the match for the visitors. A close range goal took the West Yorkshire side into the lead 2-3. The keeper made another good save from a Harry Thompson shot whilst at the other end of play Ingrow increased their lead to 2-4. Quick reactions again from the visiting keeper saw him save another Gargrave shot whilst a defensive error gifted Ingrow their fifth and final goal of the game. Gargrave continued to press for another goal with a shot going wide and another strike hitting the bar.
