Chatburn FC 1 – 5 Gargrave AFC

March 12, 2013

Another good performance from Gargrave which puts them in a good position in the league table with games in hand on their opponents.

John Beckwith scored a hat trick with Liam Jameson and Player Manager Jonathan Chapman also on the score sheet.

Gargrave Res 2 – 0 Pendle Renagades

March 12, 2013

Gargrave faced promotion chasing Pendle on Saturday with both teams desperately needing the three points. Gargraves chief scout Harry McEneaney had been busy in the build up to the big game and managed to bring in Tom Smith from overseas just before the transfer window closed.

Pendle started brightly and almost immediately went one nil up with their first attack of the game but their striker missed a free header from two yards out. Pendle again came close with two long distance shots but Adam Hudson made two great saves to deny Pendle the lead. Gargrave then came to life and played some good passing football, Andy Seddon had a couple of half chances but he was unable to convert. Gargrave took the lead after Simon Boatwrights teasing free kick caused panic in the Pendle area and Tom Smith appeared to have scored a debut goal but his header seemed to stop on the goal line. A poor defensive clearance fell to the feet of the lively Craig Gregory who danced around two Pendle defenders before slotting home to give gargrave a deserved lead. Gargrave were confident in possession and certainly didn’t look like a team rooted to the bottom of the league. Gargrave soon doubled their lead when the George Best of the craven league Josh Town calmly placed the ball into the bottom corner after he found himself unmarked in the box. Town is currently struggling to contain his massive drink problem and is refusing to admit he has issues.

Gargrave were hoping to see out the half and were counting down the clock and then up stepped Michael Mclachlan. To make for a more interesting game Mclachlan decided to give away his customary penalty of the match and with the Pendle forward seemingly about to run the ball out of play he made a trademark tackle/assault on the forward and bundled him to the ground giving the ref no option but to point to the spot. Fortunately for the defender and for Gargrave the strikers penalty was blazed over the bar.

Gargrave survived and it appeared luck was going to be on their side today. The second half saw Pendle pushing men forward and creating chances with Hudson having to make more good saves to keep his side in it. However, Gargrave defended superbly throughout and managed to hang on and claim a vital three points and a clean sheet. Tom Smith was awarded the match point with an impressive debut at the heart of the defence but the whole team had worked hard and each player was integral in the teams good performance….apart from Josh Town.

Gargrave AFC 3 – 1 Oakworth FC

March 3, 2013

Another good performance from Gargrave.

Christian Moon opened the scoring with an excellent finish. Oakworth were allowed to equalise after a dubious penalty was awarded for an alleged handball.

Gargrave went back in front after John Beckwith found the back of the net with a header from close range. Oakworth almost came back into the game when a shot hit the post.

Gargrave pushed forwards in the second half hoping to extend their slender lead. The Oakworth keeper made a good save from a Beckwith strike. Oakworth began to put more pressure on the Gargrave defence but they held firm. Gargrave made a triple substitution and made sure of victory and three points when John Beckwiths well placed shot into the top corner took the score to 3-1.
