Pendle Renegades 2 – 0 Gargrave Res

April 25, 2013

Gargrave travelled to Earby for their final game of the season against Pendle Renegades.

The home team came out of the traps quickly clearly up for the game as they were chasing an automatic promotion place. There was little to choose between the teams though in the opening 30 minutes with both defences on top limiting the forwards chances. Pendle nearly took the lead from a corner but a close range header produced a great reflex save from the Gargrave keeper. Gargrave worked hard and tried to utilise the big pitch but didn’t offer too much going forward. Pendle took the lead with a counter attack a few minutes before half time.

Gargrave had the luxury of a substitute and brought on fresh legs just after the break. The second half was a fairly uneventful affair with the home side playing long ball football at every given opportunity. They doubled their lead to take the game of out Gargraves reach.

Gargrave came close to their first shot on target when Gaz Lord’s powerful slide tackle turned into an attempt on goal, this however summed up Gargraves night. Gargrave now have to rely on the teams below them to not pick up any points if they are to survive relegation.

It’s been a tough season for Gargrave but, if the current team they have now played from the first game of the season it may well have been a different story.

Gargrave AFC 2 – 4 Pendle FC

April 22, 2013

Gargrave played Pendle FC in the semi final of the Division One League cup on Tuesday evening.

The home side were disappointingly knocked out when the visitors displayed a more positive approach to the game winning 4-2.

Gargrave Res 1 – 2 Ingrow Res

April 22, 2013

Gargrave were fortunate to be playing in Saturdays semi final league cup clash with Ingrow due to the Barons breaking the 6 game rule with multiple players in the previous round.

Gargrave kicked off and right from the offset the game was open with both defences being stretched. Ingrow looked the more dangerous though forcing good saves from keeper Hudson and they hit a post too. Gargrave had their fair share of possession but didn’t create too many clear cut chances the final ball seemed to let them down. Suprisingly the game was 0-0 at the break.

The second half started much the same as the first with open attacking football being played. Ingrow took the lead early on in the second half when a fierce 30 yard half volley appeared to be saved by the Gargrave keeper but instead of the ball being pushed over the bar it slipped through his fingers and landed in the back of the net. With Gargrave low on confidence they lacked the spark they needed to pick themselves up and then went two nil down when the ingrow forward had all the time in the world to control the ball in the box and volley home into the bottom corner.

With only 15 minutes remaining Gargrave went for it and played 3 at the back with Gaz Lord as an additional midfielder it almost immediately paid dividends when his rasping shot forced a great save from the keeper. Gargrave battled hard and started to show their fighting spirit pressing the Ingrow players high up the pitch. Gargrave scored after a great team move was rounded off by Carl Tetley who lobbed the keeper with an assured finish.

It was all too little too late though and Gargrave crashed out of the league cup….again
