Gargrave AFC 0 – 1 Wilsden FC

April 17, 2013

Wilsden opened the champagne after their slender victory over Gargrave on Saturday. The three points were enough to know they had gained promotion and won the Division One title. It was a disappointment for Gargrave who were desperately unlucky not to claim the win for themselves. The lone goal came in the last ten minutes of the game.

Earby Res 2 – 2 Gargrave Res

April 17, 2013

Gargrave had little recovery time from the weekend in Monday nights encounter at Earby. Harry “Collocini” McEneaney thankfully passed a late fitness test.

Gargrave started brightly and looked confident in possession the compact pitch seemed to suit Gargrave whilst the home side kept lumping the ball forward and the Gargrave back line watched as the ball sailed harmlessly out of play on several occasions. Earby did provide the first chances of the game though forcing two great saves from Gargrave’s Adam Hudson. However Gargrave then took the league with a signature break away goal Seddon and Town linked well as they have done all season. Andy Seddons through ball saw Josh Town make no mistake one on one with the keeper. Gargrave took control of the game their midfield trio held their positions well and the back line worked hard for each other too and Earby weren’t able to break Gargrave down. Gargrave doubled their lead when Carl Tetley’s looping shot caused pandemonium in the Earby box and Andy Seddon calmly nodded the ball into the back of the net. An unusual and unfamiliar position for Gargrave to be in at half time.

Earby changed things at half time bringing on another forward and played two up front, this had an immediate impact and they really came at Gargrave. The warning signs were there but Gargrave held firm and defended well. Earby pulled a goal back when a harmless shot somehow ended up in the back of the net, keeper Hudson got his angles all wrong and instead of watching the ball go wide of his post it crept in. Earby had momentum and kept coming at Gargrave and they soon equalised after Richard Lords failed speculative clearance allowed their winger to cross the ball into the box and the striker tapped in from close range. A familiar story had unfolded where Gargrave had been punished again by individual errors.

It was a lively finish to the game with Earby probably edging it on chances, so all in all a point was a decent result for Gargrave. Gargrave only have one game left in the league now where only a win will do. If other results are kind too the great escape could be possible.

Bingley 2 – 1 Gargrave Res

April 16, 2013

Gargrave faced Bingley Town on Saturday needing to win to boost their chance of survival. Key absentees were going to make their task even more difficult.

Gargrave were slow to start, the wind and bobbly pitch was making it difficult for them to get the ball on the ground and play football. It was turning out to be a scrappy game with little quality on show. Bingley played with the wind in the first half and had most of the ball but didn’t create too many chances. Gargrave could only clear their lines and not get a hold of the ball due to the wind. It was a fairly uneventful first half until the stroke of half time. Gargrave were hoping to go in level at the break but unfortunately they conceded right on the half time whistle as they did last week. The Gargrave keeper came out to claim a routine catch but spilled it and it fell to the feet of the grateful striker who tapped the ball into an empty net.

Gargrave made a tactical change at half time and played 4-4-2 and they looked a different side. Playing with the wind now, Josh Town started to get involved and he and Andy Seddon looked dangerous. Gargrave had Bingley on the back foot and now it was them who couldn’t get out of their half. Gargrave deservedly levelled the scores after some great one touch football between Jack Harrison and Josh Town saw the ball passed to Seddon who curled his effort into the top corner.

Gargrave’s jubilation was short lived as Bingley countered quickly and a cross from the right found the striker who had all the time in the world to calmly slot the ball home. Gargrave had two great chances to equalise though. Gaz Lord made a burst down the right skipping past their winger and full back and bundled his way into the box and played it across to the normally prolific Simon Boatwright but he couldn’t convert from close range. Andy Seddon had a great effort saved by the keeper too. Gargrave rallied in the second half and were unlucky not to draw the game.

Groundhopper visits Gargrave !!!

April 5, 2013

The first team played their first night game of 2013 on Tuesday evening vs local rivals Settle Utd. One of the spectators was a Groundhopper from Dorset!!

The gentleman was on holiday in nearby Bank Newton and added Gargrave to his tally of 1200 grounds he had already visited. His journey North for a weeks holiday had also taken in Morecambe, Fleetwood Town and a third club ( sorry name escapes me ). He also visited the Silentnight stadium at Barnoldswick on Thursday evening to see the underdogs Barnoldswick Town hold title chasers Bootle to a 0-0 draw in a North West Counties league game.

His only disappointment with the two local games was that they were both 0-0 draws so no superb goals to record at either venue.
