Craven FA Craven Challenge Cup….

November 16, 2013

Earby Town 1  -  3  Gargrave AFC

Gargrave started slowly and found themselves behind after five minutes. This did not deterr them as they piled the pressure on the Earby defence and pulled level after Matthew Simpson converted a penalty. Earby looked dangerous on the break but Gargrave were able to weather the storm.

Gargrave went into the second half level and found playing down the slope an advantage. Prolonged pressure led to another penalty which Simpson converted. He completed his hat trick with a well placed half volley which left the keeper wrong footed. Gargrave played the game out for a well deserved win.

Many thanks to our new kit sponsor, John Whitelock who has provided both a new strip for the team and also a new sign to the entrance to the ground.

The sign has looked pretty tired for a few years so it was a nice surprise to see that someone had noticed this and done something about it.

A big thank you from everyone at the club, John`s generosity and thought is really appreciated

Gargrave AFC  Vs  Chatburn FC

Gargrave AFC 4 – 6 Pendle Renegades

November 4, 2013

This was the third meeting between these clubs in as many weeks, the latter two fixtures, one in the League and one in the Craven Cup were both in Gargraves favour with 2-0 wins in both games.

The conditions on Saturday were not favourable for playing an accurate passing game with gale force winds and heavy showers. Gargrave took the lead through their prolific scorer Matthew Simpson but Pendle soon levelled and then took the lead with a second goal. Gargrave soon replied through their player Manager Jonathan Chapman with a tap in. However Pendle scored their third of the game but Gargrave made it 3-3 by half time with another Simpson goal.

Gargrave were awarded a penalty which was well converted by man of the match Simpson. Pendle`s bullet shot levelled the scores again. The visitors continued to push forwards and a further two goals from them took the score beyond Gargraves reach. 4-6.

Not the best of football but plenty of goals!
