Earby Res 2 – 2 Gargrave Res

April 17, 2013

Gargrave had little recovery time from the weekend in Monday nights encounter at Earby. Harry “Collocini” McEneaney thankfully passed a late fitness test.

Gargrave started brightly and looked confident in possession the compact pitch seemed to suit Gargrave whilst the home side kept lumping the ball forward and the Gargrave back line watched as the ball sailed harmlessly out of play on several occasions. Earby did provide the first chances of the game though forcing two great saves from Gargrave’s Adam Hudson. However Gargrave then took the league with a signature break away goal Seddon and Town linked well as they have done all season. Andy Seddons through ball saw Josh Town make no mistake one on one with the keeper. Gargrave took control of the game their midfield trio held their positions well and the back line worked hard for each other too and Earby weren’t able to break Gargrave down. Gargrave doubled their lead when Carl Tetley’s looping shot caused pandemonium in the Earby box and Andy Seddon calmly nodded the ball into the back of the net. An unusual and unfamiliar position for Gargrave to be in at half time.

Earby changed things at half time bringing on another forward and played two up front, this had an immediate impact and they really came at Gargrave. The warning signs were there but Gargrave held firm and defended well. Earby pulled a goal back when a harmless shot somehow ended up in the back of the net, keeper Hudson got his angles all wrong and instead of watching the ball go wide of his post it crept in. Earby had momentum and kept coming at Gargrave and they soon equalised after Richard Lords failed speculative clearance allowed their winger to cross the ball into the box and the striker tapped in from close range. A familiar story had unfolded where Gargrave had been punished again by individual errors.

It was a lively finish to the game with Earby probably edging it on chances, so all in all a point was a decent result for Gargrave. Gargrave only have one game left in the league now where only a win will do. If other results are kind too the great escape could be possible.

Got something to say?
