Last Call…..

August 3, 2013

We need to know if there is more player interest to continue with a Reserve squad at the club. There are sufficient players ( with enough to cover injuries and unavailability ) for one team at the moment but not quite enough players for two squads. We would also need a Manager and Assistant who would be committed to getting a full squad together every week and sending in all the online match details. Players may not be aware of the restrictions which are levied by the Craven League committee. If we cancel a game because of lack of players we are imposed with a fine of £25 per game with points awarded to the opposition. Incorrect details from a match incurr a fine of £5 for each incorrect or late item. Consistent offending of these rules can be costly and also mean a request to attend a League disciplinary meeting. It is with all this in mind that we need to know if we can comfortably field two sides this year.

The Reserves first game is scheduled for Saturday 31st August, at home to LMS.  Training is each Tuesday night from 6.p.m on the bottom Green ( end of East Street and South Street ) Gargrave. Registration forms available.

Please, we would like all players to help with the one fund raising event which we request them to help with – the clearing of Gargrave show field on the evening of the 17th August from 6.p.m – an easy job if there are enough people – not if there are three of us like last year! The show committee donate £200 to the club and without that amount we would this year have been working at a loss.

2013/14 season ……

July 16, 2013

The  2013/14 season will commence on the 31st August with night matches from the 2nd September.

Training sessions are currently held on the Village Green at Gargrave on Tuesday evenings from 6.p.m. ( the bottom green by the river, first left after what was the garage ). Last years players need to sign rolling registration forms for both the league and the Craven FA, these need to be completed by mid August at the latest. New players to the club need to sign the old style forms. Please contact either Chappie or Dan if you can`t make the training sessions but want to sign on for the club.

News from the AGM…..

June 19, 2013

There was a poor attendance of players at the AGM when a decision was needed to be made regarding the future of a Reserve Squad.

It was decided to hold the first training session of the season on Tuesday evening 9th July on Gargrave Village Green ( bottom of East and South street ) from 6.p.m when it could be established if there were enough players to form a Reserve Squad. A Manager and assistant would also be needed. Hopefully some new young players will come along to bolster the squad and keep a Reserve team going. Please pass the message around.

Chappie and Co would appreciate help on Saturday morning 13th July when they intend to make some improvements to the pitch, filling goal mouths with soil, sand and seed. (If anyone has a strimmer there is grass which needs cutting by the pitch railings and around the edges of the stand)

Chappie and Aidie will continue as Manager and Assistant of the First team.

John continues as chairman and Caroline as secretary/treasurer ( Dennis unfortunately had to give up with the treasurers position mid season due to poor health )

We are pleased to say that Dennis has accepted the position of President of Gargrave Football Club. He deserves this honour for everything he has done for the club over the past seventy plus years.

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING ……

June 13, 2013

Please try to come along to the Annual General Meeting which will be held in the Cricket Pavilion on Tuesday 18th June at 7.30.p.m.

This is an important meeting as we need to discuss whether we can run two teams in the forthcoming season. Two teams are already entered into the Craven Leagues constitution, the first team in Division One and the Reserves in Division Two ( the Reserves have not been relegated as some new teams have been brought into the League ). To pull a team out now would incurr a hefty fine from the league but if we struggle to raise a Reserve side each week this is costly in itself, a cancelled fixture would incurr a £25.00 fine each time it happened with points awarded to the opposition. Are we better running just the one side with a good pool of players to choose from ? Can players commit themselves to playing each week or are some happier to fill in for the one team when needed?

Simon , last years Reserves Manager has unfortunately had to hand his notice in due to increased work commitments. He has done a marvellous job over the past season, stepping in last year at short notice. He had problems on occasions last year raising a full side. Have we any new players coming in?

Please come along and discuss the situation and give your views.

Old and new players always welcome at the club, please contact Chappie or Dan for Registration forms if you are a new player or advise them that you would like to continue playing for the club by arranging to sign the Rolling Registration form if you played last year.

Help always required in the form of volunteers to carry out maintanence on the ground, repairs, and general help at the game, again please come along to the meeting and volunteer.

The final countdown….

May 8, 2013

Gargrave keep up their winning streak with a narrow victory over Silsden Whitestar on Saturday ( 3 – 4 ) and a comprehensive win over Pendle FC  mid week ( 5-0 ). The latter played in good spirit with excellent sportsmanship and respect from both sides.

Everything now rests on Gargrave`s last game away at Earby FC   and Cononleys game against the bottom placed team Rolls FC. If both Gargrave and Cononley win their game then Cononley will take the runners up place in Division One. If Cononley loose and Gargrave win then Gargrave get the runners up spot.

The final of the Nothern Plant Hire Trophy will be held at Gargrave on Thursday 2nd May. Kick off 6.30.p.m.

Pendle FC  Vs  Cowling FC

Any help with the putting up and taking down of nets would be appreciated.

Second chance for the Reserves….

April 17, 2013

Gargrave Reserves were re-instated in the semi final stages of the Division Two league cup when their opponents in the quarter finals Barnoldswick Barons fell foul of the Craven league rules. Despite Barons winning the encounter ( 3-1 ) they were penalised by the league for using three players who had not played the required minimum of six games before the 31st March. The Barnoldswick club were fined £60.00 and eliminated from the competition with Gargrave Reserves re-instated and now facing a home encounter  vs Ingrow and Worth Valley on Saturday 20th April. Kick Off 1.30.p.m

Groundhopper visits Gargrave !!!

April 5, 2013

The first team played their first night game of 2013 on Tuesday evening vs local rivals Settle Utd. One of the spectators was a Groundhopper from Dorset!!

The gentleman was on holiday in nearby Bank Newton and added Gargrave to his tally of 1200 grounds he had already visited. His journey North for a weeks holiday had also taken in Morecambe, Fleetwood Town and a third club ( sorry name escapes me ). He also visited the Silentnight stadium at Barnoldswick on Thursday evening to see the underdogs Barnoldswick Town hold title chasers Bootle to a 0-0 draw in a North West Counties league game.

His only disappointment with the two local games was that they were both 0-0 draws so no superb goals to record at either venue.

Game cancelled……

February 25, 2013

The first round of the Division Two cup was cancelled on Saturday due to a frozen pitch at Barnoldswick Barons.

Craven FA Games…

February 11, 2013

Craven FA games on Saturday 16th February are now all a 2.p.m kick off not 1.30.p.m.
