Gargrave AFC

Cup Draws….

August 24, 2009

Northern Plant Hire Trophy:

Gargrave FC  Vs  Embsay FC   ( last years finalists).

League Cups:

Gargrave FC  Vs  Waddington FC

Gargrave Reserves  Vs  AFC  Padiham

Dates of the above games are to be advised.

A very disappointing turn out for the clearing of the show ground on Saturday evening. We have a total of 36 players and officials – how many helped ? – 4.

Huge thanks to Chris, Jane and Jonathan who are not involved with the club but chose to help out and to the young Beckwith and Harrison brothers who collected all the posts. The show committee give the club a very generous donation each year for clearing the field, half a dozen extra helpers and the job would have been done easily in an hour not two and  a half. It is such an easy and quick way of raising much needed funds but it  is no joke when it lands on the same people each year.

If anyone wants to redeem themselves there is plenty of voluntary work crying out to be done at the ground. Goal posts and railings need painting ( paint and brushes are in the tunnel), the sign at the end of the drive needs painting, grass needs strimming in the car park and edges of the pitch etc. etc. Do you know anyone who wants a sign board putting up to advertise their business? They arrange the making of the sign and the fitting onto the railings and then give us a donation of £50.00 per year. Where else can you advertise your business for less than  a £1  per week?

Game Postponed

August 18, 2009

The first team game due to be held on Saturday 22nd August vs WFC Clitheroe has now been postponed.

Gargrave show committee give the club a very generous donation for taking down the fencing, rings etc after the annual show which takes place on Saturday 22nd August. Will players please meet at the showfield on Eshton road at 6.p.m on Saturday to help with this task. It can be done really quickly if there are enough bodies. The  football chairman will no doubt give us instructions on how it should all be done!!

Fixture changes..

August 10, 2009

There is a change of fixture on Saturday 22nd August.

The first team game vs WFC Clitheroe will now take place at Gargrave and not at WFC Clitheroe`s new ground at Great Harwood .

The Reserve team game vs Silsden Whitestar is cancelled and will now be played on Thursday 3rd September at Gargrave.

* The first game for the Reserve squad will now take place on Wednesday 19th August, away vs Settle Utd.

First Fixtures – Tuesday 18th August…

August 6, 2009

The fixtures have just been received from the Craven League, unfortunately this year the Premier Division and Division One night games are all played on a Tuesday evening. We appear to be the only club with teams in both divisions – just our luck.

We need to get players signed on as soon as possible, will managers please note that a maximum of three players may be signed on at any one game and they cannot play again until the club are in receipt of the registration form counterfoils . Therefore it is important we get as many players signed on as soon as possible before any games commence. The second fixtures will be played on Saturday 22nd August, we did request an open date as this particular Saturday clashes with Gargrave show which does involve some players. The request was sent to the League secretary some weeks ago so we have contacted Tina and hopefully she will be able to cancel one of the games, as soon as we know the outcome it will be put on the website.    Outcome is the Reserves game is now cancelled and the first team will play at home vs WFC Clitheroe ( original venues have been switched, this game was due to have been played at Great Harwood, Clitheroe`s new ground, but it will now be played at Gargrave)

Please see the fixtures section for games up until the 12th September.

Tuesday 18th August. Kick Off 6.30.p.m.

Premier division: Gargrave FC  Vs  Grassington FC . Referee Charles Veighey.

Division One: Settle Utd  Vs  Gargrave Reserves. Referee Alan Robinson.

Gargrave entered a team in the Rolls Royce five a side tournament on Sunday and held on to the title that they had won the previous year. Well done to all the players.

The first friendly of the season was held on Saturday at home vs a determined Ingrow side. The visitors won the game 3-2.

Will all players please try and sign on as soon as possible. There are no fixtures available yet from the Craven League but it looks likely that the first  night games of the season will commence at some point during  mid/end of August. Please contact your managers for the signing on forms. Training sessions at Sandylands, Tuesday evenings 7p.m-8p.m. All welcome, old players and new.

1st August – Game on….

August 1, 2009

The first friendly of the season will take place today ( Saturday 1st August ) at home vs Ingrow ( got mixed up with the In`s, thought it was Intake in the last post ).Kick Off 2.p.m.

Despite the overnight weather, the pitch should have held up well. Big thanks to Dan and Jimmy who helped with the measuring and marking out of the pitch last night. A couple of hours work, mammoth tape measures, strings, pegs, paint brush, markings – job done.

The nets will need putting up pre the game today and taking down afterwards. If anyone feels like giving up a bit of their time to improve the look of the ground by painting the goalposts and railings before the season starts, the paint and brushes are in the tunnel. Please contact Caroline, Matt,Jimmy or Sam for a key. Any other voluntary work to tidy up the ground would be very welcome.

Registration forms are now available, please sign on as soon as you can. Outstanding fines to be paid please before the season starts.

Unfortunately the friendly on Thursday 30th July did not go ahead as Hellifield were unable to raise a side.

Gargrave will be defending their title and entering a team in the Rolls Royce five a side competition on Sunday 2nd August.

Chairman`s challenge …….

July 17, 2009

The Wharfedale Harriers are holding a mid week cross country race on Wednesday 22nd July at Old Hall Farm, Gargrave, senior start time approx 7.p.m. The race is run over a five mile course starting in the field at the bottom of Johns farm lane ( approaching Gargrave from Skipton, turn right at the Old Swan Pub, follow the road along, turn right at the car park, over the canal bridge, straight ahead along Mark House Lane, high wall to your left, farm track on right and the field where the race commences). The course follows the track of the Pennine way over the fields to the wood at Calton, skirts the wood and returns by the same route. Approx 400ft climb. Entry fee is approx £3.

John challenges anyone to beat him in the race ( no big challenge ) !!

To avoid post race dehydration its back to the Masons Pub where the chairman may just get his hand in his pocket ( That is a challenge ).

Everyone welcome.
