Saturday 13th Dec- Premiership Cup Game Off & Division One

December 12, 2008

The Premiership cup tie between WFC Clitheroe and Gargrave AFC due to be played on Saturday 13th December has been called off.

The council pitches at Clitheroe were deemed unfit on Thursday lunchtime due to the heavy frosts. Mick Holgate, the Clitheroe secretary and first team manager kindly offered to switch the venue if the Gargrave pitch was playable. However despite a slight thaw, the Skipton road pitch remained covered in snow and a pitch inspection on Friday lunchtime confirmed there was no chance of the game going ahead as the attached pictures show. The playing surface was covered with both ice and snow with frost underneath.

The Division One cup tie at Embsay was called off on Saturday morning due to the pitch being under water after a thaw and heavy overnight rain.  Embsay tried to relocate the game to the all weather pitch at Sandylands but to no avail as the pitch was fully booked. Sam Ashby,  Gargrave Reserves assistant manager checked the condition of the Gargrave pitch but that too was under water. So game off.

Craven FA Cup Competitions – Both squads a win.

November 17, 2008

The Craven FA held their Cup Competitions on Saturday 15th November and both the First team and the Reserve team had a good win over their opponents and booked themselves places in the quarter finals.

The First team were hosts to Bentham in the Craven Challenge Cup and notched up a comprehensive win. Bentham, playing in the North Lancashire League came in confident mode after some excellent league results, beaten I think in only one game this season. However Gargrave turned up the heat early on in the game, scorers: Paul Wilkin(2), Christian Moon(2), Joel Timmins and Ben Brown. Good performance from Adam Hudson in goal. Final Score: Gargrave AFC 6  -  1  Bentham FC

Quarter final draw: Barnoldswick Town Vs Gargrave AFC. To be played on the 20th December.

The Reserve squad travelled to North Craven to play Settle Utd Reserves. Goals were supplied courtesy of Sam Ashby and Jonathan Chapman. Final Score: Settle Utd Reserves 1  -  2  Gargrave AFC Reserves

Quarter final draw: Gargrave AFC Reserves  Vs  Rimington Reserves/Grassington Reserves.

The two teams both reached the final in a pre season 5 a side competition which was organised by Rolls Royce FC. The Gargrave team winning the event. Keeper Adam Hudson also proved difficult to get past when the two teams met in a recent Craven League Division one game when he saved a Trawden penalty and kept the score at 0-0. Click on the thumbnails to view a bigger version of the image.

Oliver Hurst injured

October 19, 2008

We are pleased to report that the injury to Oliver Hurst on Saturday was not as severe as first thought. The injury to his leg needed stitches and he is now recovering well at home. Everyone at the club wishes him a speedy recovery and looks forward to seeing him back on the pitch in the not too distant future.

A big thank you to Nathan Lockey for calling the ambulance so promptly.
