Grassington Utd 3 – 1 Gargrave AFC

March 7, 2010

There was little to choose between the teams in the first exchanges but a long range shot from outside the area gave Grassington the lead. Gargrave had their chances but just could not find the finishing touch.

The second half of play saw much of the same with both teams having their chances but a thunderous shot from the Grassington centre back gave the keeper no chance and the hosts took a 2-0 lead. Gargrave replied shortly afterwards courtesy of Christian Moon who fired home a shot. The game could have gone either way but unfortunately Gargrave`s keeper Stewart Wilson was forced to leave the field through injury. Gargrave continued to push forwards but Grassington always looked dangerous on the break with Rob Bradley scoring a third. Man of the match for Gargrave was left back James Wilkin.

Northern Plant Hire Cup – Gargrave AFC 2 – 1 Rolls Royce FC

March 1, 2010

Gargrave knew that their second round draw in The Northern Plant Hire Cup was going to be difficult one against Rolls Royce who had beaten them a couple of weeks ago in a league game and drawn with them at the start of the season. Cup holders Gargrave did however have the advantage of playing on their home ground.

Both teams started the game strongly but it was Gargrave who maintained the greater possession. Rolls were awarded a free kick and a great strike hit the back of the net to give the visitors a 1-0 lead. Gargrave continued to push forwards but could not convert an equaliser. The defence remained solid giving Rolls no options. Excellent teamwork and a superb strike from Joel Timmins drew Gargrave level ten minutes from time. Timmins played a great ball through to Paul Wilkin who made no mistake with another great shot which was a worthy match winner. An  excellent all round team performance from the cup holders.

February 1, 2010

Top of the table Long Lee Juniors took the lead when a corner was cleared and the ball fell at the feet of  a player who volleyed the ball into the top corner of the net. Minutes later they gained a second when a free kick evaded everyone. Gargrave battled hard as the half continued but the elusive goal was hard to come by.

The second half saw player manager Matt Brown pull one back for the visitors through a free kick. Gargrave played well but were just unable to find the equaliser in a game which saw the sides well matched. Joel Timmins was man of the match for Gargrave.

Craven FA Morrison Cup: Pendle Athletic 1 – 2 Gargrave AFC

November 21, 2009

Both sides were struggling with numbers as the game started with only nineteen players on the pitch; ten for Gargrave and nine for Pendle. Gargrave took advantage of their extra man, testing the oppositions  keeper on a number of occasions. Pendle bravely held out for the first twenty minutes but their defence was finally breached when Paul Wilkin fired a low shot into the back of the net. Gargrave continued to push forward but were unable to make their man advantage count further as the half time whistle blew.

Further reinforcements arrived to slightly bolster both of the squads for the second half of play. Pendle were able to play with ten men whilst Gargrave now had the full contingent. Surprisingly it was Pendle who levelled with a shot from the edge of the area. Gargrave continued to push forward and it was one of their late arrivals, Alex Dawson , who scored with a well directed free kick. The game came to a close with Gargrave the victors by a narrow one goal advantage but both teams would come away from the game disappointed that they had not a full squad of injury free and available players to choose from.
