Craven FA Morrison Cup: Pendle Athletic 1 – 2 Gargrave AFC
November 21, 2009
Both sides were struggling with numbers as the game started with only nineteen players on the pitch; ten for Gargrave and nine for Pendle. Gargrave took advantage of their extra man, testing the oppositions keeper on a number of occasions. Pendle bravely held out for the first twenty minutes but their defence was finally breached when Paul Wilkin fired a low shot into the back of the net. Gargrave continued to push forward but were unable to make their man advantage count further as the half time whistle blew.
Further reinforcements arrived to slightly bolster both of the squads for the second half of play. Pendle were able to play with ten men whilst Gargrave now had the full contingent. Surprisingly it was Pendle who levelled with a shot from the edge of the area. Gargrave continued to push forward and it was one of their late arrivals, Alex Dawson , who scored with a well directed free kick. The game came to a close with Gargrave the victors by a narrow one goal advantage but both teams would come away from the game disappointed that they had not a full squad of injury free and available players to choose from.

Gargrave returned to the field in the second half of play and began to create more and more chances with their composed and fluent passing of the ball. Five attempts on goal saw shots go marginally wide or just over, player Manager Matt Brown hit the post, five more attempts were just wide of target again. Finally with minutes to go the conscientious Matt Brown deservedly scored the winner for his team. A good all round performance worthy of a victory. Joel Timmins was man of the match for Gargrave.
