The host clubs striker Ben Brown had his previous two attempts saved by the Grindleton keeper whilst Adam Hudson saved Grindletons penalty strike.

Grindleton scored twice, a goal in each half. Unfortunately Gargrave went down to ten men when a red card was shown,a  decision which surprised both teams .

Gargrave travel to Grindleton next Saturday for the return match hoping to reverse the score.

February 15, 2010

Gargrave took the lead against a well organised Rolls Royce side when Paul Wilkin scored from a one on one with the keeper. Rolls equalised and then created a couple more goals. Joel Timmins scored the visitors second with a close range header and Ben Brown added a third from a free kick but it was not enough to take any points from the game with Rolls having a final tally of six goals. Man of the match for Gargrave was defender Matt Brennand.

Long Lee Juniors 2 – 1 Gargrave AFC

February 1, 2010

Top of the table Long Lee Juniors took the lead when a corner was cleared and the ball fell at the feet of  a player who volleyed the ball into the top corner of the net. Minutes later they gained a second when a free kick evaded everyone. Gargrave battled hard as the half continued but the elusive goal was hard to come by.

The second half saw player manager Matt Brown pull one back for the visitors through a free kick. Gargrave played well but were just unable to find the equaliser in a game which saw the sides well matched. Joel Timmins was man of the match for Gargrave.

Cowling FC 3 – 2 Gargrave AFC

January 23, 2010

Ben Brown opened the scoring for Gargrave with a cross come shot which deceived the Cowling keeper. The hosts pushed for an equaliser but Gargrave defended well. However it was their inability to clear a ball which led to Cowlings equaliser and at the half time break it was 1-1.

Gargrave took the lead again when Paul Wilkin scored on the break with a clever lob over the keeper. Cowling replied with a free kick which found the top corner of the net. Gargrave began to tire and it was Cowling who snatched the winner on the break.

Oliver Hirst earned himself the man of the match award with some strong play in midfield.

Premier Division League Cup: Gargrave 5 – 3 Waddington FC

December 13, 2009

Gargrave were never really troubled by Waddington though the visitors were the first on the score sheet. Joel Timmins levelled with what was to be the first of  his four goal feast, adding his second soon after. Waddington did not allow Gargrave the advantage for long and scored to make it 2-2 just before the break. Ben Brown put Gargrave back in front and Timmins showed no mercy as he put another past the keeper to give Gargrave a 4-2 lead. Waddington tried to push forward and in doing so left gaps in their defence and though gaining a third goal they allowed Timmins through for the final goal of the game to give Gargrave a comprehensive 5-3 victory in this the first round of the Premier Division league cup.

Next Saturday Gargrave continue with cup action when they play hosts to Long Preston in the Craven FA Morrison Cup.Will players please note the early kick off time of 1.30.p.m.

Gargrave improved their performance after the break and Richard Orme`s well placed free kick brought them back into the game. Gargrave pushed hard for the equaliser, missing several chances. Craven FA Morrison Cup: Pendle Athletic 1 – 2 Gargrave AFC

November 21, 2009

Both sides were struggling with numbers as the game started with only nineteen players on the pitch; ten for Gargrave and nine for Pendle. Gargrave took advantage of their extra man, testing the oppositions  keeper on a number of occasions. Pendle bravely held out for the first twenty minutes but their defence was finally breached when Paul Wilkin fired a low shot into the back of the net. Gargrave continued to push forward but were unable to make their man advantage count further as the half time whistle blew.

Further reinforcements arrived to slightly bolster both of the squads for the second half of play. Pendle were able to play with ten men whilst Gargrave now had the full contingent. Surprisingly it was Pendle who levelled with a shot from the edge of the area. Gargrave continued to push forward and it was one of their late arrivals, Alex Dawson , who scored with a well directed free kick. The game came to a close with Gargrave the victors by a narrow one goal advantage but both teams would come away from the game disappointed that they had not a full squad of injury free and available players to choose from.
