Gargrave Reserves 3 – 3 Skipton Town

September 13, 2012

Gargrave opened the scoring with a free kick from Richard Orme. A close range shot followed minutes afterwards for Town to draw level. A goal mouth scramble put the visitors ahead.

A half time team talk seemed to do the trick for Gargrave and they began to play some good attacking football. Man of the match James French scored an excellent well controlled goal on the turn to level the scores. William Beckwith put Gargrave ahead but Town levelled again to share the points.

A good game for Gargrave Reserves who only days previously had been beaten 4-0 by the Skipton Town team.

Skipton Town 4 – 0 Gargrave Reserves

September 8, 2012

This was the first run out for Gargrave Reserves and their new manager Simon Boatwright. The pace of the Skipton Town squad tested the Gargrave players who had not had the benefit of any pre season friendlies. However there was a lot of positive play from them despite having to face one of the stronger teams in the division. Man of the match for the Gargrave squad was Richard Orme.

Gargrave Reserves  4  -  2  Hellifield Sports Fc

Gargrave could have gone further ahead but missed some good goal scoring opportunities. Hellifield were awarded a penalty which was converted well by Dale Denham.

The second half saw Hellifield pressurising and they were the stronger side for a period of the half. Player Manager Jonathan Chapman scored the third for Gargrave with an impressive left footed shot. John Beckwith took the tally to four with a shot into the corner whilst Hellifield came back with a consolation second goal.

All the squad played their part in the Victory.

Gargrave Reserves 2 – 1 Hellifield Sports FC

April 22, 2012

Gargrave Reserves won the league title on Saturday with a close fought game against their nearest rivals Hellifield Sports.

Hellifield were the quicker off the mark in the opening exchanges with Dale Denham having a couple of decent chances, one going just wide and the other saved by the feet of keeper, Stewart Wilson. The game continued with opportunities for both teams but neither could convert their chances. The deadlock was broken when a strong run from Denham saw him one on one with the keeper and he made no mistake. John Beckwith levelled from a close range scamble. Player Manager Jonathan Chapman cleared from the line to keep the score level at the half time break.

Matthew Simpson had a shot just over in the opening minutes of the second half and Tom Varey came close after some good work from Liam Cartman. The latter then saw his free kick parried away from goal by the Hellifield keeper. A great header from Matthew Simpson gave Gargrave the lead they were looking for and Hellifield did not help their cause when they lost a player who was shown a red card.

Three points to the hosts in their last game of the season and celebrations knowing that the Division Two league title was officially won. One remaining game on the 8th May, the final of the Division Two league title, opponents yet to be decided.

Division Two League Cup – Semi final -

April 13, 2012

Grassington Reserves  1  -  1  Gargrave Reserves

Penalties 4-3 to Gargrave Reserves

Gargrave reached the final of the Division Two Cup by the skin of their teeth when the result was decided on penalties. The game was initially due to be played at Grassington but was transferred to Gargrave when the Grassington pitch was found to be waterlogged on Thursday afternoon.

There was little to choose between the two teams during normal time, a 0-0 scoreline at half time and a good goal each in the second half of play. A fine diving header from Grassington and a well placed free kick from Tom Varey.

Gargrave won on penalties 4-3 with shots finding the back of the net from Harry McEneaney, John Beckwith, Adrian Eyles and Ben Wilson.

Gargrave Reserves 2 – 0 Bradley FC

March 26, 2012

Gargrave had their chances in the first minutes of the game. Indiscipline within the side began to creep in but fortunately this was controlled and prompted the side into more constructive play. A good run from Matthew Simpson saw his shot find the bottom corner of the net giving Gargrave a 1-0 lead. A fine through ball from Liam Cartman was wasted. Defender Ben Wilson worked hard thoughout the game and some confident headers kept Bradley`s chances to a minimum. A quick free kick from the visitors was deftly cleared by the feet of keeper Stewart Wilson.

Gargrave wound up their three points with a second goal from Matthew Simpson in the second half of play.
