Gargrave Reserves 6 – 1 Silsden Whitestar Reserves

October 16, 2012

Gargrave hosted Silsden Whitestar Reserves and a win was much needed as Gargrave have found themselves at the wrong end of the table.

The hosts started well and played some good football. Jack Harrison was a constant threat on the right hand side. However for all their possession Gargrave did not create too many scoring opportunities. Richard Orme played one of his signature long balls over the top that set Josh Town free but his half volley went high and wide. Gargrave were then awarded a penalty and up stepped Harry McEneaney but to the delight and relief of the away crowd the shot was dragged just wide. Will Beckwith was unlucky not to be awarded a penalty moments afterwards when a defender clearly handled the ball in the box but the referee was unable to see through the sea of players.

The second half started with a similar story for Gargrave this season, one long ball over the top and a defensive error gifted Silsden the lead. However Gargrave replied instantly when a great cross from Jack Harrison allowed Josh Town to equalise from close range.

Gargrave continued to dominate and to increase the pressure Player Manager Simon Boatwright gradually introduced his substitutes, big guns, Matty Simpson and John Beckwith which made for an exciting second half performance. John Beckwith scored a hat trick and man of the match Matty Simpson a brace. Matthew Brennand was unlucky not to collect the match point as he had an excellent game at the back.

Another good team performance from Gargrave and a thoroughly deserved three points.

Gargrave Reserves 4 – 2 Barnoldswick Barons

October 7, 2012

Gargrave hosted Barnoldswick Barons hoping for a better result than the last time the two sides met. Gargrave started slowly and some sloppy defending gave the visitors the lead. Gargrave had good chances in the first half, hard working Will Beckwith danced through the Barons defence and saw his curled shot go just wide. Tom Wood also came close with a header from the edge of the box. The visitors doubled their lead before the break.
Gargrave came out strongly in the second half and their hard work and pressure paid off when Will Beckwith’s shot deflected into the bottom corner. Gargrave piled the pressure on Barons but were then caught on the counter attack and a huge deflection left Gargrave’s keeper with no chance. The goal did not deter Gargrave and they kept on attacking, man of the match Lee Dent was unlucky not to score as he struck a post and Tom Wood came close again when his shot on the turn was well saved by the keeper.
Gargrave were caught out again though on the counter as they pushed more men forward. Versatile Andy Seddon’ had two attempts before finally finding the back of the net to make the final score 4-2. A good team performance from Gargrave in particular centre backs Harry McEneaney and Kristian Hodgson who were both excellent and it could have been a different story if they had converted their chances.

Cononley FC 6 – 4 Gargrave AFC

October 7, 2012

Defences were on top in Saturday’s top of the table clash at the Willie Naylor sports ground in Cunnunley, as Gargrave suffered their first defeat of the season going down 6 – 4 to Connonley.

Gargrave took the lead through local builder Liam James after some good play from local farmer John Beckwith.

Gargrave should have extended their lead but chances were squandered by local farmer John Beckwith and local personality Tom Varey.

They were made to pay shortly after when a long hopefull ball fell inbetween local furniture restorer Adrian Eyles and local IT tecnhician Matthew Mat Brennand and the Connonley striker pounced to bring the game level.

Gargrave then seemed to go a bit mental, letting Connonley score another 3 goals, making the score 4 – 1 at half time.

This caused local insurance broker Jonathan Chapman into taking drastic measures, by bringing on his 1 substitute at half time but this paid dividends when local Cartman Liam Cartman brought Gargrave back into the game with a clinical finish.

Gargrave continued to pile on the pressure and managed to bring the score back to 4 – 4 with 2 goals from local farmer John Beckwith.

At this point it looked like the game was there for the taking, but a scrappy goal for Connonley after Gargrave failed to clear took the hosts back into the lead.

Connonley made sure of the victory with 5 minutes to go when local furniture restorer Adrian Eyes brought down the Connonley striker in the area with an impressive Karate Kick to the stomach. Connonley’s ginger striker stepped up and put the ball past local tea room entrepreneur Richard “Nev South” Hall to bring the game to a close.

Northern Plant Hire Trophy – First Round game….

October 1, 2012

Gargrave  AFC   4  -  1  Bradley FC

A strong blustery wind put a stop to any precise football and made playing conditions difficult for both teams. A defensive error by Gargrave gifted Bradley the opening goal of the game. A good shot from Christian Moon put Gargrave back in with a chance.

A close range goal came from John Beckwith in the opening stages of the second half giving Gargrave a slender lead. Good passing moves created the opening for Beckwiths second of the game a long range low shot into the corner of the net. Beckwith claimed his hat trick with a deja vous moment when an identical shot hit the target again.

Gargrave almost claimed a fifth goal in the late stages when a long range power shot from Liam Jameson hit the bar.

The second round game of the Northern Plant Hire Trophy will take place on the 13th October at Gargrave  Vs  Barnoldswick Barons. The Barons will also be visiting Gargrave this week ( 6th October ) when they play Gargraves Reserves in a Division Two league game.

Gargrave AFC 2 – 1 Silsden Whitestar

September 23, 2012

The first real chance of the game came for Silsden when after some good play they were faced with an open goal but the end touch let them down. However a slow defensive reaction did allow them to score the opening goal soon afterwards, another effort went wide.

Good play from Christian Moon provided a good goal scoring opportunity for the hosts but they were caught by the offside trap.

Gargrave levelled the scores in the second half of play courtesy of a long low shot into the corner from Nick Kendall. He almost scored his second when a header hit the bar. Kendall was again to the fore when Gargrave scored the goal which took them into the lead, his cross finding the head of Tom Varey.

Keeper Stewart Wilson had to leave the field through injury and was replaced in the remaining minutes by substitute Dan Thompson who parried a shot from Silsden over the bar.

A good result for Gargrave who continue their unbeaten run.

Barnoldswick Barons 9 – 0 Gargrave Reserves

September 23, 2012

A day to forget for Gargrave as they travelled to Barnoldswick Barons.

The makeshift defence could not handle the pace of the Barons centre forward and he gave them a torrid afternoon as he helped himself to four goals. An early injury to Gargraves striker James French did not help the visitors cause.

The 9-0 scoreline flattered the homesides performance but they were worthy of the three points as they completely outplayed Gargrave.

Hellifield Sports FC 4 – 6 Gargrave AFC

September 17, 2012

Gargrave arrived at the game in high spirits looking to keep their 100% winning record alive, but it didn’t start well for them as Hellifield started well and pulled into a two goal lead.

Not to be deterred Gargrave showed some great fighting spirit and pulled a goal back when man of the match Christian Moon broke free from the Hellifield defence and finished confidently. They were soon level when a powerful header from captian Liam Jameson found its way into the bottom corner.

To Hellifields credit they managed to get back into the game and retain their lead. It didn’t last long however as Christian Moon once again found himself one on one with the keeper and finished well to bring the game level.

Hellifield once again pulled back infront, taking advanatage of some sloppy Gargrave defending, however Gargrave went up the other end and were awarded a penalty which Christian Moon converted for his hat trick.

With the game at 4 – 4, a well worked free kick from Nick Kendall was headed across the goal from Liam Jameson to the feet of Ben Wilson who tapped the ball in from close range.

Gargrave weren’t finished with the scoring however, as substitute Tom Wood hit an unstoppable shot into the bottom corner with his first touch of the game to complete the scoring in a hard fought game, that saw both teams coming away with a lot of credit.

Gargrave Reserves 1 – 2 AFC Colne

September 16, 2012

Gargrave hosted newly promoted AFC Colne. Stand in captain Harry McEneaney opened the scoring for Gargrave with a freekick from outside the box. The visitors levelled when the Gargrave defence were caught out by a long ball over the top. Colne then took the lead in the early stages of the second half when a through ball split the Gargrave defence and the Colne forward slotted home. Gargrave pressed hard for the equaliser in the last few minutes but it wasn’t to be. Overall a fair result which saw a fairly lack lustre performance from Gargrave with few goal scoring opportunities. Debutant Mike Illingworth impressed on the left wing and was awarded the match point for Gargrave

Gargrave Reserves 3 – 3 Skipton Town

September 13, 2012

Gargrave opened the scoring with a free kick from Richard Orme. A close range shot followed minutes afterwards for Town to draw level. A goal mouth scramble put the visitors ahead.

A half time team talk seemed to do the trick for Gargrave and they began to play some good attacking football. Man of the match James French scored an excellent well controlled goal on the turn to level the scores. William Beckwith put Gargrave ahead but Town levelled again to share the points.

A good game for Gargrave Reserves who only days previously had been beaten 4-0 by the Skipton Town team.
