Gargrave AFC 1 – 2 Silsden Whitestar

April 18, 2012

Gargrave were desperately unlucky to come away without any points from this game. Silsden went 2-0 up in the first half, their first a soft goal and the second down to a defensive mix up. Heavy rain gave both the pitch and the players a real soaking and conditions were heavy to say the least with a lot of standing water gathering toward the end of the first half .

The home side buckled down in the second half of play and played some of their best football of the season. Despite the heavy conditions they passed the ball well and created some good chances on goal. A power shot from Matthew Brennand was saved well. John Beckwith evaded the Silsden keeper with his shot to put Gargrave back in with a chance. Every player gave one hundred per cent, Josh Town worked incredibly hard and Al Tudhope was awarded the man of the match for his endeavours.

Pendle Renegades 2 – 3 Gargrave Reserves

April 17, 2012

Gargrave Reserves continue to put pressure on their nearest rivals when they had another win vs Pendle Renegades to keep them at the top of the table. Hot on their heels are Hellifield who though points behind do have games in hand so it should be an interesting contest when the two meet on Saturday which will be the last league game of the season for Gargrave Reserves.

Scoring over at Pendle were Tom Varey and John Beckwith with two, veteran defender and assistant manager Adrian Eyles again showed his younger counterparts how it was done when he was awarded his third man of the match on the trot.

Gargrave AFC 0 – 4 Cononley Sports FC

April 15, 2012

Cononley doubled their goal tally in the return match vs Gargrave AFC. The last clash a couple of weeks ago saw Cononley claim their three points with a 2 -0 win, Saturdays winning margin was by four goals and again Gargrave had no reply.

Cononleys opening goal came on the twenty five minute mark with a diving header,  Craig Harris saved well after another attempt from the visitors. Scoring opportunites for Gargrave came from Joe Westhead and man of the match Richard Orme but luck was against them and the first half ended with Cononley having a slender 1-0 lead.

A close range shot gave Cononley a two goal cushion, a strong run through midfield from Dan Thompson looked promising but the resulting shot was wide. The referee awarded a goal to Cononley when he deemed a lob had crossed the goal line but this was debatable. Cononleys fourth came via a defensive error.

April 13, 2012

Grassington Reserves  1  -  1  Gargrave Reserves

Penalties 4-3 to Gargrave Reserves

Gargrave reached the final of the Division Two Cup by the skin of their teeth when the result was decided on penalties. The game was initially due to be played at Grassington but was transferred to Gargrave when the Grassington pitch was found to be waterlogged on Thursday afternoon.

There was little to choose between the two teams during normal time, a 0-0 scoreline at half time and a good goal each in the second half of play. A fine diving header from Grassington and a well placed free kick from Tom Varey.

Gargrave won on penalties 4-3 with shots finding the back of the net from Harry McEneaney, John Beckwith, Adrian Eyles and Ben Wilson.

Division One League Cup – First Round….

April 12, 2012

Oakworth FC  1  -  2  Gargrave AFC

The first half started with the referee`s whistle and some rain. It ended in the same way with neither side able to create any chances in an atritional game.

The second half proved to be more eventful when Oakworth took the lead due to some faulty goalkeeping from Gargrave`s stand in keeper. They could have doubled that lead but the Oakworth striker managed to smash his shot against the post from close range. This was to prove costly to the hosts as Gargrave pulled level through a bullet header from Christian Moon. Both sides pushed for a winner and just as it looked to be heading for penalties Gargrave centre back Matthew Brennand broke the offside trap and calmly slotted past the keeper to send Gargrave into the second round of the competition.

Pendle FC 0 – 2 Gargrave Reserves

April 3, 2012

Gargrave grabbed another three points on Tuesday night when they visited Pendle FC , the second placed club in the Division. The win gave them a valuable cushion at the top of the table. Thomas Varey and John Beckwith were the scorers and man of the match was keeper Stewart Wilson.

Cononley 2 – 0 Gargrave

April 2, 2012

Gargrave traveled to high flying Cononley, looking to continue there recent run of good form. There cause wasn’t helped when their two regular goalkeepers were unable to play, meaning veteran striker Ben Brown was forced to play in goal.

The game started, with neither side able to take control. Cononley produced a fine save from the stand in keeper, whilst at the other end, Gargrave’s overseas player, James French French missed a glaring opportunity to give Gargrave the lead.

Half time came and went with neither team looking like scoring, and the second half began the same way. Gargrave spurned another good chance when an unlikely hero, Burnley Chris, rattled the cross-bar with a powerful header.

Just as the game looked to be heading towards a goalless draw, a seemingly innocuous challenge saw Cononley awarded a penalty, which their striker converted, much to the disgust of veteran goalkeeper Ben Brown.

With only 5 minutes remaining, Brown was replaced in goal by Tom Kay and reverted to his natural role of injured striker, but as Gargrave pushed for the equalizer it was Cononley who grabbed a second goal on the break, to seal their win.

Man of the match for Gargrave was the springy Richard Orme.

Gargrave Reserves 1 – 1 Rolls Royce Reserves

April 1, 2012

A single goal in each half  gave both teams a share of the points. Gargrave were the first to score when a shot from Tom Varey was saved but the rebound was tapped in by John Beckwith. A close range shot from Rolls in the second half of play levelled the score. Veteran defender Aidie Eyles had an excellent game for the hosts and was deservedly given the man of the match award by the opposition.

Skipton LMS Reserves 1 – 4 Gargrave

March 26, 2012

It was a hot day in Skipton, so Matthew Brennand turned up to this local derby wearing shorts.

The game started with the referees whistle, and it was Gargrave who took the lead when a through ball from the lively Richard Orme founds its way to Christian Moon who prodded the ball past the goalkeeper. Christian Moon soon added another after skinning a couple of defenders, and smashing the ball into the back of the net.

Half time arrived with Gargrave 2 – 0 up.

The 2nd half was to produce a moment that nobody on the ground would forget in a hurry when a clinical pass from Dan Thompson founds its way to the feet of one Simon Boatwright who was through on goal, one on one with the goalkeeper. In a situation like this, everyone was expecting Boatwright to miss, and rightly so based on past form, but to everyones surprise, he managed to scuff the ball past the LMS goalkeeper and it trickled over the line, to the disbelief of everyone in attendance.

LMS pulled a goal back with a long range effort, but Gargrave snatched a 4th on the break with Christian Moon completing his hat trick with a confident close range finish.

The game came to an end with nothing else of note happening, not even an overhead kick from Matthew Brennand, now into his second pair of shorts of the day. (These shorts were then changed back to the original shorts upon completion of the game)
