Gargrave Reserves 2 – 1 Embsay Reserves

September 19, 2011

Gargrave started the game badly by giving away a soft goal in the opening seconds. They soon restored their credibility and took control of the game with Tom Varey scoring a well deserved goal to level. Lee Dent came close with a shot across goal. Embsay had few chances but did strike the bar just before the half time whistle. Gargrave continued to pressure the visitors defence and man of the match Matthew Simpson was a constant threat. A superb extended save from Martin Eyles in the home goal kept the score level. Gargrave were finally rewarded with a winning goal from Harry Thompson just minutes from the final whistle. A well deserved three points from theĀ  first game of the season.

Wilsden Juniors 4 – 0 Gargrave AFC

September 19, 2011

An understrength Gargrave team struggled to find any form against a lively Wilsden side and the home side deserved all three points. Gargrave had few if any real attempts on goal but Wilsden found the back of the net on four occasions. New signing, Tom Wilds was awarded the man of the match for Gargrave .

Gargrave AFC 2 – 2 Earby Town

September 10, 2011

Gargrave were the more dominant side in the first half . Player Manager, Matt Brown curled a free kick into the corner of the net to take the lead and Captain, Al Tudhope scored with a rare header. Brown hit the post with a shot just before the break. The home side at that point looked comfortable with a 2-0 lead.

Earby came out strong in the second half and began to put the pressure on Gargrave, a shot hit the bar but there was no mistake from the visitors when a header found the back of the net.The introduction of their substitutes was a good tactical move from the Earby management and a driven long low shot brought the score level. Both teams pushed for a goal to take the lead but the score remained level with the points shared. Man of the match for Gargrave in his debut season with the club was defender Joe Westhead and for Earby Town, Wayne Hooper.

Rolls Royce Reserves 1 – 2 Gargrave Reserves

April 23, 2011

This was the Reserves last game of the season. William Beckwith opened the scoring for Gargrave with a well taken penalty. Rolls levelled on the half time mark from a free kick. Gargrave just had the edge over Rolls and they were worthy of a winning goal which came via some good work from Sam Ashby who squared the ball to Lee Dent who calmly shot past the keeper. Dent had an excellent game working hard throughout the ninety minutes. A good way to complete the season for the Gargrave players in a match where they all gave one hundred per cent.

Gargrave Reserves 0 – 2 Pendle Renegades

April 18, 2011

Gargrave almost went ahead in the first few minutes of play when a shot from Rhys Aldersley hit the upright. However it was to be a goal less half with neither side having any real goal scoring opportunities. A glancing header from Pendle gave them a 1-0 lead. Gargrave tried to create chances but the Pendle keeper was never really tested. A cruel bounce of the ball on the hard surface gifted Pendle a second and the full three points.

Gargrave AFC 3 – 6 Skipton LMS

April 15, 2011

This was Gargraves last game of the season against one of the top clubs in the Premiership. Manager Matt Brown was unavailable so brother Ben stepped into the breach. Regular keeper Adam Hudson was injured so in an unusual move of positions striker and top scorer Ben went between the sticks. Clearly having kept his keeper skills under wraps all these years with the club Ben looked more than comfortable in goal. Though on the ten minute mark after a strong run from Chris Simpson who found the head of team mate the ball was headed with power into the net. Midfielder Richard Orme soon levelled with an excellent free kick and it was game on. Brown played well and continued to make some good saves as Gargrave struggled to hold some of the more physically strong players in the LMS squad. An unstoppable shot gave LMS a 2-1 lead, followed by a close range effort and then a fourth goal to give the visitors a good 4-1 cushion at the break.

It was Simpson again who caused problems minutes into the second half when his angled shot found the back of the net. Gargrave never gave up the cause and the famous Orme free kick found the head of defender and captain Matthew Brennand who made no mistake.Ben Brown then reverted to his striker role and handed his goalkeeper jersey to defender Dan Thompson. An injury or two also meant a re-shuffle and the young Reserve team players William Beckwith and Josh Prell were brought on, both adding extra bite to the game. LMS were to score their sixth goal of the game but Gargrave came back yet again with the best goal of the game a forty yard screamer from Si Boatwright. Man of the match for Gargrave was the hard working Christian Moon.

Gargrave AFC 1 – 3 Cowling FC

April 8, 2011

Gargrave were unfortunately not at full strength when they entertained one of the top teams in the division, Cowling FC. Regular players were absent through work commitments and injury and were further restricted by the Craven league ruling that after the 31st March players must have played six games or more for the club to be allowed to take part in any games after that date. Disappointing for players who work on weekends and are only around for night games. However young William Beckwith took time out from his duties with the Reserve squad and more than played his part in the game, scoring on his debut with the first team. Cowling were a strong and well organised side but Gargrave competed for much of the game and did not let Cowling have it all their own way. Defender Dan Thompson was man of the match for the hosts.

Skipton Town FC 1 – 3 Gargrave Reserves

April 6, 2011

At last a long awaited and well deserved three points from a game from the hard working young squad who have been thwarted by luck going against them in the results particularly at the tail end of the season. Sam Ashby opened the scoring but Skipton Town replied to level. A header from Lee Dent put Gargrave back in the driving seat and a twenty five yard screamer – wind assisted! from Chris Cox sealed the points.
