Gargrave AFC

Gargrave AFC 4 – 2 Hellifield Sports

August 20, 2014

The first game of the season was a local derby vs Hellifield Sports. The pitch looked in good order thanks to Ray Patrick our grass cutter and John, Dan, Cameron and his mate Ben who had  measured and marked out the pitch the previous evening.

The sides were fairly evenly matched but Gargrave always had the edge with a good mix of both experience and youth. The latter comprising of last years Craven Minor player, Jamie Poulter and the impressive Cameron Hodge who also scored on his debut with the club.

Gargrave were pleased to welcome both Matt and Ben Brown back to the club with Ben scoring the opening goal. Tom Varey and Gary Lofthouse added to the tally.

Hellifields second goal came from a penalty.

A good opener for Gargrave with the potential for a successful season.

Next game: Wednesday 27th August at home vs Silsden Whitestar. Kick off 6.15.p.m.

Gargrave AFC 0 – 4 Settle Utd

May 5, 2014

It was a tough call to play the top of the table team in the last game of the season where little rested on the result for either team.

Warm conditions and a dry pitch proved tiring for both squads but Settle had the edge and the scoring capabilities.

Ingleton FC 5 – 0 Gargrave AFC

April 23, 2014

It was a tough call to play two important semi final games within two days but Gargrave gave a hundred per cent in their Craven FA semi final against Ingleton on Easter Tuesday after a tough game at Grassington on the Saturday which went to extra time and penalties. It was unfortunate that their Division One League cup game could not have been played on one of their free Saturdays earlier in the month.

Gargrave started the semi final of the Craven Cup strongly and soon put pressure on the Ingleton defence. Unfortunately Ingleton got a couple of soft goals through simple defensive  errors but Gargrave continued to be a match for Ingleton.

The second half was much of the same with Ingleton scoring a further three to add to their tally, one a respectable shot. The scoreline flattered the Ingleton side and to Gargraves credit despite their fatigue they continued to press forward and never gave up and showed great team spirit and respect.

The club play their last League game on Saturday 3rd May at home vs top flight Settle who are heading to the Premier Division next year. Kick off 2.p.m.

Gargrave will be hosting the final of the Northern Plant Hire Final on Tuesday 6th May. Kick off 6.30.

Grassington Utd 2 – 2 Gargrave AFC a.e.t 3-3 4-2 (pens )

April 19, 2014

Gargrave travelled to Grassington for the semi final of the Division One League Cup.

It was a tough game on a very dry and bobbly pitch. There was little to choose between the two sides as the scores indicate.

The full time score was 2-2 and even extra time could not seperate the two teams where they both scored a further goal each. Scorers for Gargrave were Liam Jameson, Andy Seddon and Will Beckwith.

Penalties proved to be Gargraves downfall with Grassington scoring four and Gargrave two.

The team hope to be refreshed for their next semi final clash which is in the prestigious Craven Cup on Easter Tuesday on neutral ground at Bridge End, Settle vs tough opponents Ingleton FC.

Gargrave AFC 1 – 2 Cowling FC (a.e.t )

April 12, 2014

Gargrave were hosts to Premier Division Cowling in the Quarter final of the Northern Plant Hire Trophy.

Cowling with the wind in their favour took the lead midway through the first half.

Gargrave came out strongly in the second half of play and levelled from a powerful header from Liam Jameson after a corner ball from Nick Kendall. Gargrave continued with the attacking pressure but remained strong in defence too. Cowling were on the back foot for much of the half.

With the scores level the game went to extra time and it was former Gargrave player Ben Brown who scored the goal to take the lead for Cowling. A good performance from Gargrave who now have two cup semi final games within days of each other during the Easter period, the Division One league cup semi on Saturday 19th April at Grassington and the Craven FA Craven cup semi on neutral ground at Settle on Tuesday 22nd April vs Ingleton.

Earby Town 2 – 3 Gargrave AFC

January 18, 2014

Gargrave were more than happy to go into the game as underdogs after a 6-1 league defeat by top of the table Earby Town last week.

The visitors battled hard on the heavy pitch and were rewarded with an excellent win. They took the lead through a Matthew Simpson goal which took the wind out of Earbys sails. Simpson went on to complete his hat-trick to take Gargrave through to yet another cup victory.

Gargrave AFC 1 – 6 Earby Town FC

January 11, 2014

Gargrave started the game well with a shot from Matthew Simpson skimming the bar in the opening minutes. However it was top of the table Earby who took the lead and within the first twenty minutes they had scored a further two goals.

Matthew Simpson got a consolation goal with a tap in on the half hour mark but Earby replied with another goal to give them a  4-1 lead at half time.

Gargrave continued to work hard despite the goal difference. Earby scored a fifth and Gargrave were unlucky not to score when a fine shot was parried over the bar by the alert Earby keeper. The visitors scored their sixth minutes before the final whistle.

Gargrave were not down hearted and look forward to a re-match next week away at Earby in the Division One League cup, when they hope to keep up their good cup run which includes earlier victories in all three cups : Division One League Cup, Northern Plant Hire Trophy and the Craven FA Craven Challenge Cup.
