There was little to choose between the teams in the first exchanges but a long range shot from outside the area gave Grassington the lead. Gargrave had their chances but just could not find the finishing touch.

The second half of play saw much of the same with both teams having their chances but a thunderous shot from the Grassington centre back gave the keeper no chance and the hosts took a 2-0 lead. Gargrave replied shortly afterwards courtesy of Christian Moon who fired home a shot. The game could have gone either way but unfortunately Gargrave`s keeper Stewart Wilson was forced to leave the field through injury. Gargrave continued to push forwards but Grassington always looked dangerous on the break with Rob Bradley scoring a third. Man of the match for Gargrave was left back James Wilkin.

Division One League Cup – Gargrave Reserves 0-3 AFC Padiham

The first round of the Division One League cup against AFC Padiham finally went ahead after originally been scheduled for the 5th December. On paper there was little to choose between the two teams with Gargrave winning an away league fixture back in October and Padiham winning the return game in November. Gargrave were soon in action with a shot from Jodie Lonsdale, Ben Ashby was unlucky with a long range attempt. Padiham sent a lob over the keeper to take a 1-0 lead at half time.

Gargraves work rate never faltered but chances on goal were few. Keeper Adam Hudson denied Padiham a second after a good save. Nick Kendall carrying a recurring injury placed a cool shot toward goal but it was saved by the Padiham keeper. A goal mouth scramble notched up a second for the Lancashire visitors. Kendall headed the ball inches over the bar after a cross from Ben Ashby. Young substitute Ben Wood made a promising debut and came close to scoring .Jonathan Chapman shot just wide of goal whilst at the other end of play Padiham hit the woodwork. A header from Padiham was to seal their victory but once again Gargrave never gave up the chase and it is hoped that their determination and good team discipline will bring in the results that they deserve in the remaining league games of the season.

Gargrave Reserves will visit Skipton Town on Saturday for a league game

Northern Plant Hire Cup – Gargrave AFC 2 – 1 Rolls Royce FC

Gargrave knew that their second round draw in The Northern Plant Hire Cup was going to be difficult one against Rolls Royce who had beaten them a couple of weeks ago in a league game and drawn with them at the start of the season. Cup holders Gargrave did however have the advantage of playing on their home ground.

Both teams started the game strongly but it was Gargrave who maintained the greater possession. Rolls were awarded a free kick and a great strike hit the back of the net to give the visitors a 1-0 lead. Gargrave continued to push forwards but could not convert an equaliser. The defence remained solid giving Rolls no options. Excellent teamwork and a superb strike from Joel Timmins drew Gargrave level ten minutes from time. Timmins played a great ball through to Paul Wilkin who made no mistake with another great shot which was a worthy match winner.An excellent all round team performance from the cup holders.

Gargrave play Grassington Utd away on Saturday. Kick off 2.p.m

Chatburn FC 7 – 0 Gargrave Reserves

It was always going to be a difficult game at Chatburn, particularly when some players were unable to play at the last moment. Matters only worsened minutes before the game was to start when keeper Adam Hudson was injured in the warm up. Player manager Jimmy McLachlan pulled on the gloves and made a valiant effort in goal. Chatburn played some strong football and the Reserves battled hard against them but they were no match for the home side who were 5-0 up at half time.

Chatburn scored a further two goals in the second half of play. Man of the match for Gargrave was Jodie Lonsdale.

The Reserves will be at home on Saturday when they play AFC Padiham in the Division One League Cup, kick off 1.30.p.m.

Celebrating 100 years of Craven District Football Association….

Last year the Craven FA celebrated a century of football, the association was formed in 1909 at a meeting in the Midland Hotel, Skipton.

A book documenting the history of both the association and all member clubs was compiled last year by Mr. Allan Cawood, President of the Craven FA. The publication is illustrated by many old team photographs ( Gargrave are represented by team photographs from 1927/28 when they were the Craven League and Craven Cup winners and a team photograph from 1936/37. Both kindly loaned by Dennis French ). All nineteen member clubs are represented in the book, documenting the highs and lows over the years. There are also sections on the Referee`s, footballing families, Craven characters and much much more.

The book is priced at £5.00 and there is also a DVD which displays many more of the old Craven footballing photographs, the DVD is priced at a £1.00.

Oakworth FC 1 – 3 Gargrave Reserves

A welcome three points for Gargrave Reserves who have been thwarted with bad luck for most of the season. Man of the match Paul Wilkin took the lead with a long range strike. The visitors continued to play some decent football but a penalty in the first half of stoppage time allowed Oakworth to level.

The hosts came out strong in the second half but found the Gargrave defence hard to penetrate. A good run from Matt Brown was abruptly halted by an Oakworth defender and a penalty was awarded and duly despatched by Brown. Oakworth began to tire on the heavy pitch and Brown took advantage with a one on one with the keeper to score a third for Gargrave. Man of the match for Oakworth was Joe Slater.

The Reserves will visit Chatburn FC on Saturday for a league game whilst the First team will be at home in the Northern Plant Hire Trophy vs Rolls Royce. The Plant Hire Trophy game will kick off at 1.30.p.m.

Morrison Cup game – off….

Unfortunately due to the ground conditions we have had to call off the Morrison Cup game ( again ). The frozen pitch would not take any studs at twelve noon so there was no alternative but to call the fixture off. Disappointing for both sides particularly when otherwise the pitch is in very good heart.
