Gargrave Reserves 5 – 0 Skipton LMS Reserves

November 18, 2012

Gargrave hosted Skipton LMS Reserves in the first round of the Craven FA Norman Pratt Cup. Gargrave were hoping for a good cup run to help with their precarious looking league position.

LMS started the better of the two teams but never really threatened the Gargrave goal. It was a cagey first half with few goal scoring opportunities, the best of the half falling to Will Beckwith who blazed over the bar after some good link up play between Andy Seddon and Josh Town.

Gargrave started well in the second half and soon took the lead, a hopeful long ball into the box from Dan Thompson turned out to be a perfect pin point cross for Richard Orme who used all his pace off the ball to direct his header into the bottom corner. Gargrave continued to press and created chance after chance. The move of the match saw Andy Seddon and Josh Town link up again, Seddon back heeled the ball and Town saw his placed shot go just wide.

It looked as if it was not to be Gargraves day after so many missed chances but then the floodgates opened. Andy Seddon headed in Jack Harrisons cross to make it 2-0. A fine solo goal from  Josh Town made it 3-0 and a screamer from Jack Harrison made it four. Seddon grabbed his second of the game and completed the scoring with a low shot into the corner.

An emphatic win for Gargrave and thoroughly deserved. They will meet Barnoldswick Barons away in the second round.

Gargrave AFC 1 – 2 Hellifield Sports

November 12, 2012

A defensive error allowed Hellifield to take the lead. Jonathan Chapman came close to equalising when his shot skimmed the bar.

A powerful free kick from Hellifield was well saved and a quick break gave John Beckwith a good chance to level with his solo effort. There was little to choose between the two teams with their 1-1 scoreline but an angled well controlled lob put Hellifield back into the lead. An injury to the keeper forced a change with Dan Thompson going in goal and Liam Cartman coming off the subs bench. The latter having a shot saved just before the break.

The second half of play again saw a fairly even game but with neither side managing any further goals it was Hellifield who took the points in this local derby. Man of the match for Gargrave was the hard working club stalwart Aidie Eyles who put in an excellent performance.

Silsden Whitestar Reserves 6 – 4 Gargrave Reserves

November 12, 2012

Silsden were extremely quick out of the blocks and took the lead in the first two minutes. Their corner was headed in by the Whitestar forward. More pressure was piled on with Gargrave struggling to get the ball out of their own half. When it eventually did a quick break away saw Andy Seddon through one on one with the keeper, his low shot trickled towards the goal keeper and to everyone’s amazement crept into the back of the net! The Gargrave striker wasn’t aware he had even scored!

The goal rallied Gargrave for a short while but the home side took the lead again when a deflected shot left the Gargrave keeper with no chance. Gargrave then went to pieces, defensive errors and some good finishing saw Silsden in no time at all score three more goals and they led 5-1 at half time. The second game in a row that Gargrave have trailed by this deficit at the break.

Silsden sat back in the second half and Gargrave pushed on to try and salvage something from the game. A neat one two between Gaz Lord and Andy Seddon saw Seddon grab his second goal of the game with a cool finish past the keeper. Gargrave were then caught on the break as they pushed men forward and a defensive mix up saw the Whitestar forward through on goal and he made the score 6-2 with a calm lobbed finish. Gargrave heads did not drop though and Andy Seddon completed his hat trick with a brilliant header. Richard Orme made the scores 6-4 with a well placed shot into the bottom corner. Gargrave turned up the heat and were extremely unlucky not to increase the scoring with Josh Town missing a speculative over head kick, Harry Mceneaney had his shot cleared off the line, Kristian Hodgson saw his free kick well saved and Gaz Lord missing a sitter from 3 yards out.

A spirited second half display from Gargrave made for a thoroughly entertaining game and the visitors were unlucky not to share the points on the day.
